Does trimming promote healthy hair?

As i watched this video, i came to the conclusion that many people believe trimming is necessary for healthy hair. I do agree that hair tends to look better and look healthier with a good trim, but does it actually make hair healthier to trim hair? What do you think? I will be on a no trim challenge on MyHairSistas starting september 3rd after using the moon calendar to trim my hair for thickness, and i will not trim again for at least 6 months. I want the healtiest hair possible, but after the 3rd not trims for a while, i hope i'm not doing harm, i usually trim after a relaxer, every 3 months

Co-washing

Did You Know? Conditioners and Co-washing

Conditioner washing, or washing the hair only with a conditioning product, is an excellent way to get moisture to your strands during the week. However, buildup from the conditioners used is often a concern for many conditioner washers.

One pretty interesting thing about conditioners is that they ALSO contain surfactants, the substances in shampoos that bind to and help remove dirt from the hair. These surfactants in conditioners are called "secondary surfactants" and they extremely gentle.

Surfactants are the reason why conditioner washing is still able to get the hair clean! Surfactants are needed in conditioners to help them spread, “lather,” and rinse away
cleanly. Common secondary surfactants are cocamidopropyl betaine, sulfosuccinate,
hydroxysultaine, and lauryl polyglucose.

Also, to increase the chance that your conditioner will work well as a conditioner washing conditioner, in addition to the inclusion of secondary surfactants, look for conditioners that contain very few silicones and heavy oils. You also want to be sure to clarify the hair regularly.

Happy conditioner washing!

MSM, methylsulfonylmethane (sulphur) and Hair Loss

Sulphur is a mineral present in all cells of the human body. Sulphur is most concentrated in hair, skin and nails. Sulphur has been called a “beauty mineral” and a “healing mineral” because of its ability to promote circulation and decrease inflammation. These qualities support the theory that when your body has the adequate amounts of sulphur, you can jump-start hair growth in people with sulphur deficiences that may be causing thinning hair or hair loss.

Sulphur has become a popular nutritional supplement and topical treatment, thanks to methylsulfonylmethane, or MSM. In the book, The Miracle of MSM, by Drs. Stanley Jacob and Ronald Lawrence, they state that MSM is considered to be safe with no chance of overdose. They state that even after years of taking more than 2,000 mg of MSM each day, patients showed no sign of toxicity. That’s because as a water-soluble mineral, any excess MSM not used by the body is quickly flushed out.

The doctors treated more than 1,000 patients with MSM for everything from osteoarthritis to allergies. When it came to research on hair growth, they reported that 100% of their patients taking MSM experienced increased growth. Although these results are exciting there is no widely-published evidence that taking excessive amounts of MSM will reduce health problems unless a sulphur deficiency is currently present. Some first signs of a sulphur deficiency are dry skin, loss of hair, brittle hair and nails. Other symptoms may include sore joints and muscles, diabetes, headaches, allergies and fatigue.

I'm having a hard time

I started the no comb challenge 3 days ago. I have already failed !!! I just cannot keep my hands out of my hair. I am so upset with myself, why can't i put the comb down? Am i obsessed? I have already combed my hair 3 times today (i usually comb about 10 times, lol) If i am to make progress i must stick to my self imposed challenges. Granted 3x a day is less than 10, but the challenge calls for only combing on wash days. I must be an example for my hairsitas. I won't give up, i will just try harder :o)

I will look to this picture for inspiration !!!

Biotin And Hair Growth

Biotin plays a significant part in the prevention of hair loss. Most nutritionists agree that biotin is one of the important vitamins for supporting hair growth. It is also commonly advised to take biotin to supplement medical treatments such Minoxidil or Propecia.

A deficiency of biotin may cause hair to become frail and unhealthy, and hair breakage, which may result in hair loss. Biotin also keeps your skin and nails healthy as well as being an important element of new hair growth.
Supplements are sometimes needed to return biotin levels to normal, but it is recommended to include biotin regularly in your diet. Two foods containing good quantities of biotin are liver and egg yolks. You would have to eat thousands of calories worth daily to get enough for your hair needs, which is why I would also suggest biotin supplements.

Foods full of biotin include brewer's yeast, green peas, oats, soybeans, walnuts, sunflower seeds, green peas, bulgur and brown rice. In terms of the egg yolks, your body's ability to digest and assimilate biotin decreases with high intake levels of protein. Biotin binds easily to proteins, making it unavailable to your body, which in turn causes biotin deficiency and hair loss. Try to steer clear of raw eggs in your diet, and cut down on protein powders and bars. Use one of the many shampoos that contain biotin and silica.

Additionally, those with type A blood don't have the ability to fully absorb B vitamins. Biotin is classified as a Vitamin B, so if you have Type A blood, adding higher doses of 5-8 grams twice daily will be needed to help prevent hair loss. At this time, there are no known side effects at this dosage level.

People suffering from heartburn, acid reflux, or GERD and who are taking antacids may absorb biotin less and hair loss may occur as a result. Therefore watch your use of over-the-counter antacids if you are worried about hair loss.

1 Year Comparison

I'm so glad i learned to do comparison pics. It's really good to do these comparison shots to keep you motivated. If i didn't take this shot, i would swear my hair is not growing, lol. This is one year of a consistent regime. I even trimmed twice to get rid of raggy ends, and gained some thickness too with using henna glosses and the addition of JBCO.
